Be inspired!

Want to support SYC but not sure how? Here are just a few of our favourite fundraising ideas to help you!

Quiz Night - Whether it’s online or in person, a quiz night is always a good way to have fun and raise money. All you need is a carefully-selected set of questions, a quiz master and people to take part. Oh, and maybe a prize for the winner too!

Coffee Morning - Why not host a coffee morning for your nearest and dearest? This is a great fundraising idea that allows you to relax and catch up with family and friends, at the same time as raising valuable funds for your favourite charity.

Fancy Dress Day - You will be amazed how many people love to dress up! Simply ask everyone who wants to take part to make a small donation to come into work, school or college, dressed as whatever they want. Or if you would prefer to dress up with friends, you could arrange a themed fancy dress party with a prize for the best costume!

Car Wash - Time to get those buckets and sponges out! A car wash is a great way to raise money as it is a win-win situation. The person donating gets their car cleaned, as well as knowing they’re giving to charity. You might even be able to encourage people to pay a little over the going rate!

Come Dine With Me - Yes that’s right, a ‘Come Dine With Me’ for charity! Get 3 mates together (or up to 15 if you set up a tournament), ask everyone to put a set donation in the pot and then get cooking. The winner takes half and the other half goes to SYC. Blogging/vlogging this could also be great fun too, so make sure to tag us in any posts, including any cooking disasters!

Sponsored ‘Give-up’ - This one is simple to set up, yet so effective. Whatever it is you choose to give up, e.g. chocolate or takeaways, why not get your family and friends to sponsor you? This is a great way to cut out something from your lifestyle, as well as fundraise for a fantastic cause.

Guess the Baby Photo - Perfect for the workplace, everybody makes a small donation to enter themselves into the competition, then tries to match their colleagues name to their picture within a set time. Whoever gets them all/the most correct wins. The winner will not only be champion of the office, they will also take a cut of the prize money, with the rest going to SYC!

Hair Shave/Dye - Fancy a new hairstyle? Or always secretly wanted to be bald!? If so, why not consider shaving your hair for SYC? Not only is it a great way to get lots of sponsors, other charities can use your hair for good. If going bald is too much, why not go bright blue for SYC? Again, it’s a great way to raise money, as well as lots of awareness about young carers. Or you could even try growing a beard/moustache!

Penalty Jar - One for those of you who are always late, or perhaps need to watch your language (!), a penalty jar is a great way to kick bad habits as well as support a great charity. Set whatever rules you like and every time you break one, pay into your jar. When you’ve filled the jar, we’ll be very happy to take it off your hands! This is a really good one for workplaces/families to take on together.

Or if fitness is more your thing…

Running - If running is something you enjoy, why not take on a challenge like a fun-run or a marathons to raise money from your family and friends? You can click here to see a list of running events taking place soon, in and around Sheffield.

Walking - From walking around the Peak District to challenging yourself to walk from one place to another, e.g. Lands End to John O’Groats, or setting yourself a daily, weekly or monthly step target, walking is a great way to raise money for charity - with the added benefit of being really good for you too!

Cycling/Swimming - If you’d rather be on wheels or in water, there are plenty of cycling and swimming challenges out there too. Or you might even fancy combining two or more of the above by taking part in a triathlon or a swim-less or bike-less triathlon, like the Great North SwimRun. Your options are almost limitless!
